Summer wedding season is officially in full swing! So it seems as if there is no better time to share with you all one of my favorite ideas; A Nautical Wedding. Thanks again to an extremely talented group of people from all over Grand Rapids, this magical wedding design came to life right before our eyes. And I’m so excited to show you all!
SHOUT OUTS to Ever After Studios who helped capture the day with their assistance of taking all of these fabulous pictures and The Cheney Place is awesome in letting us use their venue.
Like any good fisherman knows, fishing is centered around the basic element of the perfect knot. When creating this design, I chose this fundamental element to be the focal point and carried it throughout the entire table scape. This simple piece translates so well to a wedding; two people intertwined in their relationship and taking the plunge to spending their lives together. Could you ask for a more fitting theme? Now lets walk through the steps to how this came to life!

Step one: Furniture. For this set-up it only seemed right to have the classic and painlessly easy round tables coordinated with the beautiful white chairs with knotted navy linens. This look is timeless, and traditional.

Step two: Linens and Colors. What comes to mind when thinking about summer? (Which is something we shamelessly all do quite often… Thank you Michigan). I think of being out on the beautiful water under the hot, hot sun. Water? Boats? Nautical. We went with rich navy colors complemented by bright white, tans, and pops of green in the flowers. Could that cocktail table with the strips and knotted tie be any more perfect? Thank you to The Chair Cover Collection for the linen lovelies.

Step three: Place Settings. The Rental Company helped this girl out with her china and glassware. With stunning hammered silverware and a standard, yet classic, white plate; the place setting was completed just like that. Finished with a bow style napkin, rope wrap and unique menu card designed by yours truely, wah-la… Gorgeous.

Step four: Florals. I scream, you scream, we definitely all scream for… florals. This table in particular is not overdone in the slightest, in this case; less is best. This piece is symmetrical around the centerpiece, with pops of white roses and green leaves. Thank you Posh Petals for continuing to do an amazing job, as always.

Step five: Décor and Paper Goods. Finishing pieces! It is so much fun getting to
be creative and to design paper elements for my couples and particularly this shoot. As I always say, it is all in the details and this was the case for this nautical design. It is so important to determine your signature paper and fonts and carry these throughout your wedding. This is what makes your wedding different than any other couples’!
The knot is carried through the stunning place card holders, infinity knot on the table numbers, place cards and invitation design. As a final touch, I hand glued twine to the votive candles that were sporadically placed throughout the table.
