Rich Winter Wedding

Let me start by saying I know the frozen rain falling from the sky is a touchy subject for some Michiganders (including the hubs) but for me, winter is an exciting time. The wedding season isn't just May-October anymore and for this planner, that is an amazing thing! I have been blessed to have brave couples willing to venture into the cold months and keep me busy in the "off season". All Buttoned Up has some unique weddings coming up in December, February and April.

Winter weddings represent me being able to work with rich color palettes, unqiue textures and unpredictable designs! Not to mention how amazing your pictures will turn out! If you are lucky and get a snowy backdrop, you eliminate the greenery and traditional shots and will be left with a fluffy clean backdrop that lets your beauty shine through. As I reflect on what is to come, I am looking back at a March styled shoot I did inspired by what I would like to see for a winter wedding. For this shoot, I wanted to bring in warmth with the wine tones and gold accents. Enjoy!

Beyond choosing a color palette that works in the winter months, the next step is hiring a florist that will bring your floral dreams to life. For me, I wanted an over-the-top design that was elegant, yet whimical. To bring my vision to life, I looked to my good friend, Elizabeth owner of Posh Petals, one of the most creative and sweet souls you will ever meet! For texture, we added plums, grapes and other lush fruits to the jewel toned blooms and I must say, I think it was pretty darn perfect!

Gold is my jam. I can't get enough of it! It breaths warmth into the design and is something to consider if you are planning in the winter months. Silver is the best friend to achieve a frosty winter wonderland and gold is the go-to for a rich warm wedding. From the gold chiavari chairs to the detail-rimmed charger, accents of metallic perfection were carried out through the table scape. In addition to the fabulous cabernet pintuck linens, these were provided by The Chair Cover Collection. I am not ashamed to admit that I am a spray paint snob. There is a certain brand of gold spray paint I use for all my crafting projects and you can see it showcased in the above picture. A simple house number was given a glamorous new look with a fresh coat of paint and a beautiful custom menu. An indulgent last touch is investing in gold silverware and the rimmed china which completed this look. Our friends at The Rental Company provided these beauties and I can assure you, the investment will be worth every penny!

The foundation of All Buttoned Up Events is in the details and this is what will make your wedding or event unique. To achieve the polished look for this winter design, we garnished the bubbly with a blackberry and yes, the toothpicks were spray painted the signature gold. The stunning calligraphy was provided by a Victoria Drive Design, a vendor I found on my favorite site, Etsy. I had a certain look I was going for and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Remember when I said it was all in the details? The same paper used for the place cards and menus was used when I designed the coordinating invitations. From your invitations on, be consistent with your paper, fonts and colors to achieve a cohesive "theme" and design. Your guests will be charmed by your attention to "buttoning up" these final touches. You can find this invitation here.

This styled shoot was captured by the dynamic duo Ever After Studios and the venue host was The Cheney Place. The designs we have been working on for our upcoming couples have me pretty darn excited and I can't wait to share them with you all once they are complete. In planning you own winter wedding, be brave with the design. Experiment with textures and unique elements that will make your big day scream your personality. As always, happy planning and enjoy every minute of this amazing adventure in your life.

xoxo Kelly
